Hi everybody,

We had a great class on Monday and I want to thank everybody for bringing
such deep stuff to our exercise, I hope it helped make our sense of the
project clearer.

To re-cap what we did, we picked an object and made two lists: one of
OBJECTIVE descriptions (what you see) and one of SUBJECTIVE descriptions
(the personal, or what you feel). Now that we've done this, we can remember
that this difference between objective and subjective descriptions is what
makes art and writing interesting a lot of the time -- being able to go back
and forth effectively you can take people ANYWHERE!

To re-cap what we decided on Monday, we've decided to focus on OBJECTS for
the website; and in the same way each person talked about deep personal
meaning by simply describing an object on Monday, we'll use our objects to
frame our issues on the website.

Remember: WE AGREED TO PICK THE OBJECT WE'D LIKE TO COMMITT TO BY NEXT
MONDAY...

And the other thing is just to remember to start having some conversations
outside the classroom as well...and I'll say it again: art doesn't happen in
a classroom two hours a week, and neither does social change. You can use
this email, you can email one another or just talk on the phone, or better
yet, meet somewhere in the city and get coffee or go to the park...etc.

Last, I'd like to offer a question for discussion on Monday and perhaps you
can just think about it or discuss it with one another until then...

1. What is resistance?

2. What does resistance have to do with prison(s)?

3. What can objects have to do with resistance?

Great -- see you all on Monday!

Ashley
