WMM NEW RELEASE "ESCUELA" ON THE ACCLAIMED PBS SERIES P.O.V. 

There are over 800,000 students enrolled in migrant education programs in the United States today. Many of these students come from farm-working families and labor alongside their parents and siblings to harvest fruits and vegetables throughout the year, forcing them to move according to the seasons. School boards across the country have found it difficult to meet the special needs of migrant students and, as a result, only 45-50% ever finish high school. ESCUELA, the latest documentary by award-winning filmmaker Hannah Weyer to be distributed by Women Make Movies, personalizes these glaring statistics through a poignant portrait of the struggles and triumphs of a teenage Mexican-American farmworker, Liliana Luis.

Airing on P.O.V. Tuesday, August 27, 10 pm ET (check local listings), ESCUELA was recently presented with the 2002 MTV/news/docs Award at Doubletake and the Special Jury Prize awards at the South by Southwest Film Festival.
