 The Ins (and Outs) of Helping the ELL (ESOL) Learner in the ABE
Classroom Series  
 
In recent years, programs have seen an increase of English Language
Learners (ELL) in their ABE/GED classrooms.  The following workshops
will discuss strategies and techniques to support your non native
language student to reach their educational goals.

1. The Boss Can't Do That, Can He?  A Training on Health and Safety and
Other Worker Rights 
 
Most students participating in community based ABE and ESOL programs are
working people, many of whom are unaware of the laws that govern the
workplace and provide them rights at work.  This interactive workshop is
designed for ABE and ESOL teachers who are interested in addressing the
very relevant topics of workers rights in their classes, but are
unfamiliar with the laws.

2.  An Introduction to Counseling in ABE 
 
This workshop will  provide new ABE Program Counselors and Student
Support Coordinators with an introduction to the essentials of working
with adult learners in ABE programs.

3. Immigration Law and Your Adult Learners
 
At this workshop we will discuss common immigration issues,
concentrating on undocumented individuals and their rights. By gaining a
basic understanding of immigration laws, and the issues that can cause
problems for your students, you will have a better understanding of how
to discuss basic immigration issues with your students, and how to guide
them to get the right kind of help.

 6.  Workplace Teacher Statewide Sharing via Video Conference! 
 
SABES is pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to teachers who
are working in Workplace Programs to meet and share with their fellow
workplace educators statewide....via video conferencing!  The group will
meet three times this year.  Each session will include facilitated
discussion and problem solving.  Topics addressed will include
contextualized lesson ideas, assessment in the workplace, resources and
materials, and the workplace culture.

1.  Wimba Orientation
 
As a result of this orientation participants will become familiar with
the capabilities of Wimba including how to set up your computer for
participation in Wimba Sessions.
 
Attendance at a Wimba Orientation session is a pre-requisite to
attending a training using Wimba i.e. HiT's with Eunice.  You only need
to attend a Wimba Orientation once.
