[Bestplus] Clarification, please

You know, Betty, I've never been comfortable with that word-check
option. I think it kind of muddies the process, much like giving credit
for communication if you happen to know non-English words a student uses
in a reply. I'd vote for a hard-line policy of always repeating the
entire question and assigning a score of 1 at best and O if the repeat
doesn't help the student. Longer questions would be a drag to repeat,
but I haven't run into all that many check-in situations to make the
repeating a serious hardship. I think this approach would also bring us
all in line with the TAGs, in the section you've noted. But, I'd be
curious to know what others think.

Carey.

To my BEST Friends,

I was reviewing my notes from our 9/16 refresher and wanted to clarify
this:

Per the TAG and past practice, we repeat the entire question one time
(without rephrasing or explaining) if the examinee doesn't understand,
asks for repetition or clarification.

I have in my notes that if the student does a self-check (e.g.
..."employee?") we should repeat only the word. This also seems to make
sense and follows what was past practice in administration, though I
don't see that explicitly in the TAG.

QUESTION: I noted that I should look at the new TAG for a change in
administration--and I see only the section on the top of page II-3. That
section doesn't refer to self-checks, only full repetitions.

All that is different in the NEW TAG is an explicit instruction to
enter 0-0-0 after no response to a repeated question. Am I right on
this? Just the explicit 0-0-0 is new, not any other change.

Thanks, all,
Betty

Nice hustle, everyone. It's great to see that there is reliable back-up
in case of emergencies.
Take care, and I hope everyone feels better soon.

You're right, Annemarie. Ellen is doing the training (I guess
Richard,
in
his drugged stupor, forgot to mention that to me). And Kevin O'Conner
is
able and willing to come in the afternoon to help her out.
So, we're all set.

Thanks everybody (especially Kevin)!

Dori

Hi Dori,
I was under the impression that Ellen Crevison was doing the training
with him.
She is terrific but in a training that size a second facilitator is
needed. I'm not available
But if someone else is, you'll find Ellen easy to work with.

Hello BEST Plus Trainers,

We're having a bit of a BEST Plus crisis and need your help ASAP.

Richard Rakobane is supposed to give a BEST Plus training tomorrow
(9-4:00)
at UMASS Boston, BUT he is very sick (Nothing life-threatening, but
something very painful and requiring mind-mushing pain-killers), and
he
cannot do the training.

Is there anyone out there who could do it?

Please get back to me ASAP if you can.

Thank you!!!!

Dori McCormack
