Hello all,
The SABES curriculum and assessment coordinators feel that it is
important for you to know that SABES has adopted strict policies around
attendance and punctuality for BEST Plus trainings. The following
paragraph is inserted in emails to registrants and/or summarized orally
in phone conversations. The CACs are also urging registrants to show up
early for signing up and settling in.
"To receive this training, a practitioner must have an English fluency
level of SPL 9 or above. We [SABES] require that once a practitioner
has registered for a BEST Plus training that she or he makes every
effort to attend. SABES will be offering only a limited number of these
state-required trainings between now and June 30th; in addition, these
trainings are hands-on, involving the use of computer hardware and
specialized software. For these reasons, rescheduling for no-shows
cannot be guaranteed. Furthermore, because this training has only
limited follow-up, participants may not be more than 20 minutes late and
cannot leave early for whatever reason. If a registered participant
knows that she/he can not attend her/his scheduled training, or cannot
meet the punctuality requirements, she/he should alert the RSC
immediately."
As you move into your solo trainings in the months ahead, you should
feel empowered to turn away registrants who show up more than 20 minutes
late and NOT to give a Certificate of Completion to anyone who insists
that she/he must leave early. (Some participants are tempted to "cut
out early" during the hands-on practice session at the end, but this
just as important as the other parts.) In such cases, simply refer that
person back to his/her CAC and please call the CAC with the information
they will need to deal with the situation.
My best,
Carey Reid
