Janet's post reminded me of another option to consider. In our Boston co-training, also with Stacey, we had thought of asking a participant to do 20, rather than 10 practice tests, as Janet mentioned. I recall we also talked about recommending that a shakey administrator be asked to co-score 10 of the 20. That is, the person would have to score with another person who would shadow behind and make notes on any scores s/he thought were questionable.
 
It could also be a policy that programs would be advised to send people to be BEST Plus trained in pairs whenever possible. It is always better when doing a training like this to have a colleague closeby with whom you can bat around your questions before they become overwhelming or you turn them into bad habits (ingrained mis-scores). This was very helpful for us when we did REEP training, and even original BEST, (and by the way, Re-thinking Supervision in ABE and the YALD Fundamentals in Reading courses). I can't imagine not having a "training class," a group of colleagues with whom I can raise BEST Plus questions and brainstorm the answers. WE are so lucky to have the level of "clss" we have - direct access to the panel of experts - and each other.
