[Bestplus] A reminder / Suggestion

I don't know how or if it could be coordinated or funded but it seems like a
good idea. It might help take the stigma out of a practitioner needing
extra support after the training if there are other practitioners there
getting practice tests done too.

The issue of practicing brings up the question of whether the training could
accommodate a section where some learners are "imported" for that purpose. I
know that there is a line in the March manual (Feb. too I think) that states
"the ideal would be to practice with a few students now" or something
similar.

One possibility - mind you a possibility - might be to facilitate a group
practice session a few weeks after the training when students could be
brought in and administrators practiced and got feedback from a
colleague/observer. Administrators might get at least 4 practices in 1.5 - 2
hours and they'd have the added advantage of getting some chance to talk
with colleagues about how their scoring went.

Sounds like a rogue addition to the CAL training....In any case, it would be
a bit of a logistics challenge, but at least it could help a group all at
once. Any comments?

Yours in BEST,
Betty

Hi, Janet--yes, that is true, that program staff may feel there aren't
enough students to practice on--that is a real concern. But I think it
would be great for trainers to suggest students who might be likely
candidates for practice--like those you mention, and one of the other
trainers suggested giving a practice test to students who will likely get
the REEP. I think trainees need practice scoring ESOL students, since it is
a lot easier (and often more of a homogenous scoring experience) with adult
colleagues. Does anyone have other suggestions for students who might be
willing to take it as a practice test?

Thanks--
