Good afternoon -
Do you teach math because you love teaching it? Do you teach math
because no one else in the program will touch it? Are your ESOL
students asking for math instruction and you're not sure how to
introduce it? Are you tired of the way you're teaching math, and would
like to spice it up? Are you curious what educational research is
teaching us about math promising practice? Are you an open-minded
math/numeracy teacher interested in experimenting with and improving
your practice in the company of like-minded math comrades?
If you can answer "yes" to any or all of these questions, you are
eligible to join our second year of Teacher-to-Teacher (T2T): Designing
Math Instruction that Works.
How does it work?
As a group of twelve or so ABE/ESOL teachers with a math/numeracy
interest, you will meet four times during the year for 2.5 hour sessions
(for a total of ten hours) to share and explore math teaching
approaches. All sessions will be facilitated by two experienced math
teachers, Michele Bahr and Marilyn Moses, who genuinely love teaching
math and want to show you how you can too. They've both also been
trained as mentor-math teachers and have been in this role for several
years.
And....because this is part of a state-wide SABES initiative, you will
have access to all kinds of training resources!
Meeting Times
All Math Teacher-to-Teacher (T2T) group meetings will be held in an
authentic ABE Math classroom at the Brockton Adult Learning Center where
manipulatives and math realia will be readily available. The first
meeting is on November 1st from 3:00-5:30 p.m. Subsequent meetings will
take place in January, March and May. You must make a commitment to
attend all four sessions.
Please consider participating with a colleague to build program math
capacity!
