Integration of Assessment, Standards, and Instruction Course

The University of Massachusetts, Amherst, is offering a 6-week course
about the integration of assessment, standards, and instruction through
item writing to all ABE math teachers. Through the course teachers will
learn item writing basics for multiple choice and constructed response
items and explore the math curriculum standards. The teachers will work
with each other and through homework assignments to apply what they are
learning about assessment and standards. Teachers will create multiple
choice and constructed response items to address specific benchmarks.
Through the item construction process teachers will discuss how the
topic is taught in the classroom, possible ways to assess understanding,
and common misconceptions learners have about the topic. The course
will take place in Worcester (or possibly Amherst), and each meeting
will be two hours and have a presentation on a topic and then a time for
teachers to work independently and in groups to apply what they are
learning.

Participant should:

Be current ABE Math teacher

Be interested in learning more about ABE Math Curriculum Standards

Be willing to complete weekly homework assignments to practice what we
are learning in class. Homework will entail reviewing items and writing
items and should take about 2 hours per week to complete)

Enjoy working with colleagues to learn from each other

Course outcomes:

Receive XX PDPs for participation (We need to check with Linda Guthrie
