               Dr. John Strucker

      National Center for Adult Learning & Literacy

John Strucker's interest in adult reading began when he worked as a
labor and community organizer in Chicago in the 1970s. For 11 years at
the Community Learning Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dr. Strucker
specialized in the diagnostic assessment and teaching of adults with
reading difficulties. Strucker's other interests include, the
application of technology to literacy learning and the development of
adult literacy assessment tools.

Dr.  Strucker will describe research projects including the Adult
Reading Components Study and most recently an examination of
instructional design for reading fluency and vocabulary for both adult
education and community college students.
