________________________________

As the head of an organization that serves the immigrant community I
must speak out against the despicable incident that took place in New
Bedford. Whatever your views on current immigration issues, this action
by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has separated families and
torn mother's from their children. With the decision to send detainees
to Texas for incarceration these families will be unable to reunite or
to access legal avenues to apply for a review of their status.

I have attached a copy of the MIRA bulletin that was released yesterday
asking those of us who work with this community to please let our voices
be heard on behalf of our constituents. The 2000 decennial census shows
that without the influx of immigrants Massachusetts has seen in the past
20 years our state would have lost another representative to the U.S.
House. Also, as a state that relies so heavily on the immigrant
population to grow our economy, actions such as this are
counter-intuitive to the economic success of the Commonwealth.

Please call your representatives in Congress and ask them to stop this
mean-spirited attack on hard-working families.
