Job Title: Workplace Education Coordinator and Instructor
The Asian American Civic Association is seeking an experienced
coordinator/teacher for a full-time position to manage and teach in a
workplace education program at New England Medical Center.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinator Responsibilities:
* Coordinate Workplace ESOL/ABE program
* Communicate effectively and develop relationships with keen
diplomacy among diverse constituencies-workers, supervisors, managers-in
a fast-paced environment
* Supervise teaching and data entry staff
* Provide leadership to Planning and Evaluation Team members
(which is comprised of company management, supervisors, and workers) and
facilitate team meetings
* Develop policies and procedures (with Planning and Evaluation
Team) for program marketing, student outreach, recruitment, intake,
assessment, placement, scheduling of classes and student follow up
* Ensure that all partners involved in the workplace education
program are kept informed of program's performance
* Develop and oversee program evaluation
* Oversee and conduct student assessment utilizing standardized
assessments for Pre-and Post-Testing [Test of Adult Basic Education
(TABE) for reading and math, Basic English Skills Test Plus (BEST Plus)
for ESOL speaking and listening, and Arlington Education and Employment
Program (REEP) for ESOL writing]
* Maintain assessment certifications by participating in ongoing
trainings and recertification activities
* Oversee SMARTT Database System (System for Managing
Accountability and Results Through Technology) activities
* Maintain appropriate program and student records(e.g.
attendance, goals, outcomes, assessments, contact notes, exit
information)
* Oversee and participate in the selection and development of
appropriate materials for class use
* Oversee development of contextualized curriculum aligned with
the Massachusetts ABE frameworks
* Plan and conduct periodic recognitions of student achievements
* Provide input/participate in program development activities
* Participate in professional development activities
Teaching Responsibilities
* Any other duties as assigned by the Director
* Teach ESOL and GED class for 4-hours/wk each for incumbent
workers at New England Medical Center who are immigrant adults or in
need of a GED
* Work on curriculum development regularly and develop lesson
plans
* Survey students' expectations at the beginning of each new
cycle and develop appropriate curriculum
* Administer regular assessments, including but not limited to a
mid-term exam, final exam, portfolio or class project
* Prepare lesson materials for substitute teachers when absent
* Administrate/score placement tests for student assessment and
admittance
* Keep student attendance records for each week and month of
class cycle
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's Degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics or
related field. Master's degree strongly preferred
* Previous experience working with the adult learner limited
English speaking population.
* Experience teaching and coordinating a workplace education
program strongly preferred.
* Experience with Mass. Dept. of Education/Adult & Community
Learning Services expectations and accountability systems preferred.
* Computer literacy.
* Ability to adapt materials to meet individual needs of
students.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, cross cultural, organization,
and communication skills.
* Very organized, pays attention to detail.
Salary Range: $38,000 - $42,000 + benefits
Expected Start date: Early August, 2007

Job Title: ESOL/Job Readiness Teacher
AACA seeks a dynamic teacher for a full-time position to teach in the
Facilities Maintenance Training Program and the Accounting Skills,
Computer, and English Training (ASCENT), both job training programs
combining ESOL for the workplace and job readiness with technical skills
needed for the workplace.
Responsibilities:
Teaching and Student Activities:
* Conduct classroom instruction in ESOL, math, computer and job
readiness
* Work with students to develop resumes and cover letters
* Teach interviewing skills
* Develop, evaluate, and modify course curriculum and lesson
plans according to student needs and student, program, and employer
feedback
* Assign and correct student work
* Evaluate student progress
* Maintain student records
* Participate in the testing and interviewing of new applicants
for program admission
* Work as a team with the other teachers and career coach/job
developer for the development and implementation of an individualized
service plan for each student
* Coordinate volunteer tutor assignment for students and follow
up on students' progress with tutors
Administration:
* Participate in regular program and staff meetings
* Participate in Employer Advisory Committee meetings
* Develop and evaluate classroom assessment tools
* Participate in the development and implementation of
appropriate programmatic and administrative policies
* Contribute to the development of standards of performance and
systems to monitor that performance for programmatic soundness
Qualifications:
* Must have experience teaching limited English speaking adults
* Experience teaching job readiness skills strongly preferred
* Some prior knowledge of the maintenance trades is desirable
but not a requirement. The candidate does, however, have to be willing
to learn some possibly unfamiliar vocabulary and concepts in order to
reinforce the explanations of the shop teachers.
* Must be available 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.
Salary: $30,000-$33,000 + benefits
Start date: July 23, 2007
