[Abesoutheast] Job Posting: ESOL Counselor at QCAP

Quincy Community Action Programs, Inc. (QCAP) seeks a Counselor to
provide educational counseling and support to students enrolled in our
DOE-funded ESOL classes.  Classes meet in the mornings at two sites in
Quincy.  Position is part-time, 25 hours per week for 42 weeks starting
August 20th, 2007; salary is $18 per hour, including paid sick time,
holiday time, and two personal days per year.  QCAP is located in Quincy
Center, convenient to the Red Line.    

 

Responsibilities include:

Outreach, intake, and orientation of new students;

Assessment;

Monitoring attendance and addressing barriers;

Goal-setting and follow-up;

Transitioning students to next steps (i.e., further education and
training or employment);

Maintaining student records and entering data into DOE SMARTT database;

Some local travel between sites is required.

 

Qualifications:  

Bachelor's degree in relevant field;

Minimum of three years of relevant experience working with adult
learners from diverse backgrounds required, previous experience in
DOE-funded adult education program preferred; 

Bilingual ability in at least one Chinese dialect required, Cantonese
preferred; 

Certification in required DOE assessment instruments (Best Plus, REEP)
preferred, ability to become certified required; 

Familiarity with community resources in the South Shore area; 

Strong computer skills, including data entry; 

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; 

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks; 

Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently; 

Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students and staff; 

Commitment to working on behalf of low and moderate-income people.
