math lesson plan, which the participant then implements and reports upon
to the facilitator. Additional assignments are required between
sessions.
Learning Objectives:
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
LO I: Describe at least 3 characteristics of adult mathematics
(numeracy) learners and their individual experiences and how these
learner factors affect teaching and learning.
LO II: Describe at least 3 mathematical demands connected with various
adult learner goals for numeracy.
LO III: Articulate at least two mathematical learning theories and their
connection to adult learning and teacher practice.
LO IV: Summarize data from at least two research studies or professional
articles in the area of mathematics education, particularly adult
mathematics education.
LO V: Summarize the math content and learning in each of the four
content strands of the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Framework

LO VI: Demonstrate an understanding of a variety of adult education
classroom environments and how the role of teacher as facilitator must
adapt within those environments.
LO VII: Demonstrate a variety of standards-based methods and strategies
for teaching mathematics content and concepts and problem-solving in the
adult basic education classroom.
