SABES has made available a self-paced, online course, the Fundamentals
of Assessment, which was developed by the SABES Curriculum and
Assessment Coordinators with input from ACLS and several practitioners
and colleagues.

The course is Web-based and designed for you to take on your own. Most
test-takers complete the course in 90 minutes or less. It is divided
into several lessons of 1-2 pages of content each with quick check-in
quizzes along the way, and culminates in a 10-question Final
Examination. By taking this course you will learn the basic principles
of standardized assessment and how they can be applied to your own
classroom practice.

The course is available to all Massachusetts adult literacy
practitioners. To take the course, go to
<http://moodle.literacytent.org/> and click on "Distance Learning,"

and then click on the "Fundamentals of Assessment" course title. On the
page that opens, please make sure to CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT, not visit as
a guest. Guests cannot take quizzes or the Final Exam and no record of
their work is kept.

After you create an account, you'll be sent an email with your own
password for getting into the course. You will need the enrollment code
"mockup" too, so please make a note of that. Participants will have two
chances to achieve a passing score of at least 7 correct answers on the
final exam. A record will be kept of this achievement, and you might
also wish to print out a copy of the score for yourself.
