[Abesoutheast] ASE Teacher's Group Training and Sharing -- "Algebra for All"

Attention all ASE (ADP & GED) Teachers!

 

SABES SE presents a two session training "Algebra for All" for the first
two sessions of its ASE Teacher's Group Training.  Sessions will be held
on January 31 and February 14, 2008.

 

This interactive/hands-on workshop will help you build upon your skills
in order to develop students' algebraic thinking and to transform
algebra into a gateway rather a gatekeeper to higher education. Join
Michele Bahr and explore quantitative situations in ways that bring
meaning to the symbols and representations basic to algebraic
development. 

 

The first session will take an approach of "algebrafying" arithmetic to
lay a foundation for effective algebraic thinking in pre-GED classes.
You will explore hands-on activities that involve pattern recognition,
operations, mathematical symbols and variables.  

 

During the second session you will again engage in hands-on activities
designed to further develop reasoning, communication and problem-solving
skills of ASE learners. Emphasis will be on learner preconceptions and
multiple strategies that can be used to approach mathematical
situations.

 

This training is a must for teachers preparing learners for the GED or
ADP or for teachers who want a better understanding of teaching algebra
to adults.

 

This is a two (2) part of a four (4) part PDP series.
