POSITION: Staff Associate for Literacy Volunteers, Fall River
STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Staff Associate for Literacy Volunteers is responsible for the overall operation of the volunteer tutoring program. The coordinator will conduct the training of tutors, interview and assess adults requesting tutors, establish tutorial matches, prepare reports for DOE and BCC and enter data required by DOE into the SMARTT Database Systems.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Fall River ABE Director.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Conducts recruiting efforts in order to meet DOE requirements for active volunteer caseload
* Develops and revises tutor training curriculum as needed
* Provides DOE approved training to all volunteers
* Maintains communication with BCC's ABE teachers and counselors to develop a pool of students in need of tutorial services
* Places non-teaching volunteers for training with the appropriate staff
* Matches volunteers and students for tutoring
* Makes arrangements for tutorial spaces and recommends materials needed for instruction
* Provides ongoing support and supervision of volunteers
* Evaluates the performance of all volunteers
* Assumes responsibility for all reports required by DOE and BCC
* Participates in program development team meetings with ABE providers to ensure integration of the volunteer support program into the day and evening adult education classes
* Maintains SMARTT database for the volunteer program
* Attends a minimum of 2.5% of paid hours of professional development activities per year
* Other duties as assigned by the ABE Director
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
* Bachelor's Degree in related field
* Experience in program coordination; adult basic education & volunteer literacy programs preferred
* Demonstrated training and presentation skills
* Excellent communication skills
* Experience with computer word processing and data entry, experience with SMARTT Database, preferred
POSITION STATUS/SALARY: $18.27/hr 19/hrs/wk, day and evening-non-unit, grant-funded, part-time, with benefits (subject to availability of funds).
