Job Description

Title: Old Colony Y YouthBuild Fall River      Educator (2)

Classification:    FT/Exempt

Reports to:    Program Director

Job Summary:   The educator should be a dynamic individual committed to
at-risk youth with a creative approach to education.  The educator is
responsible for teaching basic skills leading to GED testing, college
preparation, and life-long learning.  Educators will develop and modify
curriculum and materials as required to meet individual and program needs,
and to develop and adapt curriculum in cooperation with the staff team.

Job Function:

1. Teach basic skills to students at varied academic levels, integrating
information from a variety of areas.

2. Adapt curriculum and develop additional materials according to the
academic needs of the students and the program. Enhance learning with
hands-on activities, internet materials, and community connections.

3. Develop learning contracts/individualized lessons for each student and
assess student academic progress by updating plans regularly.

4. Modify curriculum and/or materials in conjunction with other program
components; Work as a member of a total staff team, integrating basic skills
with the other program components.

5. Teach life skills and support classes as assigned; participate in special
projects as required.

6. Implement policies and procedures consistently.


Qualifications:

1. Bachelors Degree in education or related field; DOE certification
strongly encouraged.

2. Three years experience teaching basic skills, preferably with young
adults.

3. Experience in creative curriculum planning and development.

4. Strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative youth
program, to assist them in reorienting their lives, nurturing their
leadership skills and enabling them to make a difference in their community,
ability to relate sensitively to a diverse group of young people.

5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent
interpersonal skills with a non-judgmental approach and style; ability to
teach and work as part of a team.
