WORKPLACE MATH INSTRUCTOR POSITION

General Statement of Duties: Instructor will develop curriculum and teach 
basic math skills classes in a labor/management workplace education program 
at Marshalls Distribution Center in Woburn, MA.

Supervision: Instructor will report to the HR Manager at Marshalls for 
supervision and work collaboratively with the labor/management committee 
overseeing the program.

Outline of Duties:
Develop basic math skills curricula that address work-related and general 
math skills needs of Marshalls workers.
Conduct outreach activities and recruit potential students from the ranks 
Marshalls workers.
Assess and place Marshalls workers into classes using appropriate 
assessments, as decided by the committee.
Develop and maintain a waitlist for classes as needed.
Instruct two math classes for Marshalls workers per cycle.
Incorporate worksite and union materials into class work and curriculum.
Track student attendance and follow up with students regarding attendance 
issues.
Participate in labor/management committee meetings to oversee program 
development, implementation and evaluation.
Assist the committee in developing ongoing evaluation procedures.
Assist in completing required grant documentation and forms as needed.

Qualifications:
Minimum two years experience in adult basic math instruction; experience in 
workplace education settings a plus.
Experience developing and adapting job-related or union materials for use in 
basic skills curricula.
Commitment to student-centered, participatory education.
Ability to maintain student confidentiality and handle work-related problems 
with sensitivity.
Experience working in multi-cultural environments with diverse student 
populations.
B.A. required; M.A. in related fields a plus.

Schedule: The program will consist of two math classes (one per shift) that 
will meet twice a week (1 ½ hours per class), in 11 or 12-week cycles, 4 
cycles per year. The Instructor's work schedule will be 11:00am - 5:30pm on 
class days, which includes first and second shift classes, with paid prep 
time in between the classes (prep time will be used to prepare classes, 
recruit and assess students, etc.). Classes will meet on site at Marshalls. 
Exact days of class will be determined by the committee and instructor.

First shift class: Tuesday and Thursday 11:00am - 12:30pm (or other days)
Prep: 12:30 - 4:00pm
Second shift class: Tuesday and Thursday 4:00 - 5:30 pm

Salary range: $25-$28.00/hour (based on experience), 52 weeks/year. This is 
a grant-funded position and will run for approximately 1 ½ - 2 years.
