Hi Everyone
Yes, SABES Southeast will be publishing Sharing Our Thoughts (SOT) in
FY07.
Once again, we will connect SOT with professional development,
especially to invigorate teacher interest and confidence in assisting
students in their writing and editing. Attached is a flyer announcing a
series of workshops [Writer's Blocks: Building Teacher Confidence for
Student Writing Success - A Tool Kit for Sharing Our Thoughts]
specifically designed to assist teachers (and tutors) in all programs to
work with student writers at all levels. To continue the quality and
integrity of SOT, we strongly encourage all teachers who wish to
participate in SOT to please attend these workshops. Even experienced
teachers of writing will gain something from these offerings. Each
session is planned as a stand alone workshop, though 10 PDPs will be
available to those who attend all sessions and complete a final project
with presentation.
Last year, we began a process to more clearly define our selection
process for publication of student writing. We are committed to having
this be a transparent process based on clear evaluation criteria.
Therefore, we would also like to point out that the 3rd session -- It
Ain't Done 'til It's All Checked Out - will focus on editing and using
the SOT rubric. It will help teachers to understand how we select
writings for publication and provide additional tactics for encouraging
students to critique and polish their work. Peer editing will also be
discussed.
The formal Call for Writings and the Invitation for Selection Committee
Members will be sent later in September. (By the way -- Participation in
the third session of the series -- It Ain't Done 'til It's All Checked
Out -- will be required for teachers interested in participating on the
Selection Committee - so please plan ahead.)
If you have any questions about Sharing Our Thoughts, please let me
know.
Thanks
Mev
