Would you like support from SABES in getting an ABE Teacher's License?

Carey Reid, a SABES Staff Developer, has been convening
"license-seekers' cohorts" for the past several years. Each cohort is
composed of 5-10 license-seeking practitioners who work together once a
month for four hours to build the portfolio they need to meet license
requirements. Cohort members choose the same day each month to meet
(e.g. First Fridays) and work together at computers. The advantage of
this process is that the license seekers set aside those hours in
advance, and with that "protected" time they make very steady progress.

Carey is on hand the whole time to provide guidance--and lunch is on
SABES!

Three cohorts are currently running, with August off but set to return
to work in September. With several members' completing their portfolios
last year, there is room for new members in all three groups. One group
meets at the Valley Opportunity Council in Holyoke from 10-2 on the
First Friday of each month. A second group meets at UMass/Boston from

10-2 on First Saturdays. A third group meets at Bristol Community
College from 12-4 on Third Fridays.

If you would like to join any of these groups, please contact Carey at
creid at worlded.org. We recommend that you be a teacher with 3-5 years of
experience teaching in the field, because the requirements are fewer for
veteran teachers. However, Carey is willing to work with newer teachers
as well. You can call him with questions at 617-482-9485. He is also
willing to set up a NEW group if several people from a specific area or
program want to do so.
