Dear Colleagues,
We are exploring the opening of a CUNY College Transition School for upper level ESL and high school equivalency preparation students. The school would be created in collaboration with an organization that provides a range of cradle to career preparation services. It rarely happens that we have the opportunity to think about a new school from the bottom up, and I would like to invite your participation in helping us plan. Everything is on the table: the academic program design, the hours, the recruitment strategy, the building, the assessment strategy, opportunities for internships and community engagement. Everything. Would you please accept this invitation to help us with this dream? What elements of your own work or that of others with which you are familiar should we emulate? Which should we avoid? As you may know, we at CUNY have been providing ESL, GED, Basic Literacy and College Transition programming for many years, but this chance for a new beginning should not go forward without the wise thinking from the broader field. We know we have a lot to learn from so many of you and would be grateful for your ideas. Thank you.
