Colleagues: In my advocacy for adult education I have long argued for the
importance of adult education for the advancement of childrens learning
and school achievement. In the Fall 2011 issue of the American Educator I
have an article called Getting It Right from the Start: The Case for Early
Parenthood Education (available online at
http://aft.org/pdfs/americaneducator/fall2011/sticht.pdf).
Now I am pleased to announce that with the approval of the American
Federation of Teachers a forthcoming issue of The Education Digest will
publish a condensed version of the Early Parenthood Education article. The
Digest has a circulation of some 5,000, mostly libraries, so the actual
readership is probably much larger. Hopefully this will inform readers of
The Education Digest about the importance of investing in adult education
to assist both adults and their children in their lives.
For another advocacy article arguing for the importance of adult education
in children's learning and school achievement see Educated Parents,
Educated
Children: Toward a Multiple Life Cycles Education Policy. This piece was
published in Education Canada, a magazine of the Canadian Education
Association. This article can be located gy searching Google using my last
name and the article's title as given above.
I am incorporating information from these articles and other new research
into the free workshop on The Intergenerational Effects of Adult Education
that I am offering in 2012. I charge no fee for these workshops but
sponsors need to pay my travel and accommodation expenses. For additional
information and/or to arrange a workshop in your area contact me at:
