RE: Clinical Associate Professor of Adult Education and
Director of the Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy and
Learning
The College of Education at Texas A&M University invites applications
for the position of Clinical Associate Professor of Adult Education and
Director for the Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy and
Learning (TCALL). This full-time non-tenured position is located within
the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource
Development (EAHR), and has a start date of September 1, 2008. As EAHR
faculty, we are committed to: creating a department climate that is
characterized by collaboration, collegiality, trust, safety,
celebration, fun, and the valuing of differences of many kinds; creating
a department that is characterized by rigor in all of its processes,
such as teaching and research, and by high quality in all of its
outcomes, such as its graduates; demonstrating that equity, diversity,
and social justice are embedded in all we do, especially in terms of our
own community, the rigor of our processes, and the quality of our
outcomes; increasing equity, diversity, and social justice through
private and public education, policy communities, private and public
organizations, and all areas of society in general.
Required Qualifications:
* An earned doctorate in adult education or a closely related
field, with an emphasis in adult literacy, family literacy, or workplace
literacy
* Success in securing and managing external grants
* A record of working with diverse student populations
* Administrative and/or leadership experience
Preferred qualifications:
* Expertise in the foundations and practice of adult education
* Expertise in quantitative research methodologies
* Experience in and commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration
* Experience in the use of distance modalities for instructional
delivery.
* Experience teaching at the graduate level
* Experience serving on doctoral dissertation committees
Responsibilities: The position entails both faculty and administrative
responsibilities. Faculty responsibilities include: teach graduate
courses in adult education; advise masters and doctoral students and
serve on doctoral dissertation committees; collaborate with colleagues
in meeting the mission and goals of the academic program; and contribute
to appropriate service activities benefiting the department, college,
university, and the profession. Center Director administrative
responsibilities include: manage and lead a center staff of
approximately 25 individuals; serve as principal investigator for
existing large-scale grants and secure on-going funding; collaborate
with the Texas adult education agency on research and service projects;
conduct research on the needs of Texas adult education and literacy
practitioners; and act as a liaison between TCALL, Texas A&M University,
and Texas state agencies. For further details regarding Center
