The College of Education in conjunction with the College of Social Science
and Interdisciplinary Studies at Sacramento State University is proud to
announce the approval of our campus to offer an EdD in Educational
Leadership.   Sacramento State University is one of seven campuses within
the 23 campuses of the California State University System (CSU) that was
approved to offer the first independent doctoral degree program initiated
within the CSU.  The first cohort of 15-18 students (from the P-K through
12, Community College and community/government sectors) have been admitted
for the fall 2007 .  We are seeking a Director for this program, to begin
serving in a 12 month faculty position, August 2008.  The person appointed
to this position will report to the Deans of the Colleges of Education and
Social Science and Interdisciplinary Studies. S/he will be responsible for
helping the campus recruit/market, shape/teach, and implement this new
degree program.

California State University, Sacramento invites applications from
individuals interested in joining our dynamic and growing faculty.  With a
current student population in excess of 28,000, Sacramento State, the
capital University is one of the larger campuses in the 23-campus California
State University system which is the largest system of higher education in
the nation.  The University is organized around seven colleges.  There are
approximately 1,700 faculty who provide programs of instruction leading
towards bachelor¹s degrees in 60 disciplines and master¹s degrees in 40
disciplines and two joint doctoral programs.
 
Sacramento is a high-growth metropolitan area with a population of

California State University, Sacramento is seeking applicants for a
full-time 12-month faculty position.  The successful candidate will be
appointed as a tenure-track faculty member in the Educational Leadership and
Policy Studies Department in the College of Education and will be given an
initial assignment to serve as the Program Director for our
interdisciplinary doctoral program in Educational Leadership.  This doctoral
program is a collaborative effort between the College of Education and the
College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies and their
respective departments of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and
Public Policy Administration.  The program seeks to take advantage of its
location in California¹s capital city by focusing on applied educational
leadership and policy.  The overall mission of this new independent doctoral
program is to prepare educational leaders for administrative positions in
K-12 and Community College or Post-Secondary Education systems.  This
interdisciplinary program will prepare individuals to confront the
challenges of educational equity and transformational leadership in order to
bring about significant reform and change in a variety of education
settings, and to promote creative and critical thinking.
 
REQUIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in K-12 educational or
community college leadership or a related field.  Preference will be given
to candidates who are able to show:
·      evidence of successful performance in teaching at the graduate level
·      successful experience in program development, program management,
program growth, and evaluation;
·      proven record of publication and scholarly work appropriate to
leading a doctoral program
·      understanding of educational reform, research-based initiatives, and
policy within K-12 or community college or related institutions
·      proven skills in developing effective partnerships with multiple
stakeholders in education related endeavors; experience in leadership
development within racially and ethnically diverse communities.


ASSIGNMENT DUTIES:
The Director will lead the implementation and growth of the independent
doctoral program in educational leadership at Sacramento State.  Given that
this is a new program, the Director will have significant influence over its
implementation.  The Director will coordinate the overlapping
responsibilities of the Ed.D. Faculty Group Steering Committee, Regional
Advisory Council, and the Ed.D. Program Board.   The Director will also have
responsibility for:
a)     teaching and advising
b)     scholarship
c)     partnerships with local schools, community college districts, and
state and national decision-makers
d)     graduate student recruitment, retention, and support
e)     faculty recruitment, retention, and support; and
f)      securing external funding for the program.
 
APPOINTMENT AND ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE:
This is a full-time 12-month tenure-track faculty position.  Salary as well
as rank and tenure status will be dependent on the qualifications and
professional experience of the candidate.  The starting date is negotiable
but no later than August 31, 2008.
