That was one of the most intelligent and well thought out arguments that I have read on this list in a long time.
Nativism has a long heritage in the history of the United States and it is a historical fact of record that heirs of formerly shunned and despised groups and ethnicities are often at the forefront of calling for the severest restrictions and pejorative labeling of new groups.
That any nation should work toward having a sound immigration policy is a given, but the 400 year history of what is referred to as The New World has largely benefited by the infusion of new groups even as nativism has been a persistent strain in the land of the free and brave.
