Thanks for the tip, Deb. I assume your assessment refers as well to the two workbooks which accompany the primary student text

Our guiding principle will be along the lines of "use Voyager for at least 50% of your session," then supplement with other print or on-line materials that we have available in our center or something that you or your students may bring in. Our tech laboratory is quite extensive and we're continuing to emphasize greater use not only by students before or after class, but by the small group tutors during class.

I remain very committed to contextual literacy development, which is supported by a wide span of literacy theory. Within our highly specified context, I am wagering that this series will serve as an important conduit both on the need for extensive basic skill development and context based instruction. Of course, all texts are context-based, but I don't want to parse this issue too much at this time, other than to note.

The proof, as always is in what will emerge. I am optimistic even as I am not a cock-eyed optimist.

We also use the Voyager series and prefer it to Challenger, an older New Readers Press series. However, my take on it is that the activities do not give enough practice utilizing the various new skills, so we supplement it as best we can. Thanks, George Best, Debbie
