Colleagues,

A Kentucky task force, concerned that 53% of entering first-year
public college and university students need at least one remedial
course, has recommended, among other things:

• Revise budgeting procedures so that colleges, adult education
providers and public school districts are held accountable for
reducing the number of students underprepared for college.

• Provide more professional development so that current teachers will
have students ready for college-level courses in mathematics, English
and reading.

• Provide money to improve remedial education programs at
universities, community colleges and adult education centers.

For an article about this Kentucky task force see:

Student under-preparedness for postsecondary education is not unique
to Kentucky. Are other states recommending policy to address this
problem? Specifically, are other advocacy efforts for state adult
education funding, planned or in progress, being tied to better
preparedness for college?
