Replying to David C's hope for advocacy, i am printing here a 
definition that some on this list serv, those who work with students, 
might find useful.

The question of spirituality v religion came up last week at a 
"Learning and the Brain Conference" session in the context of stress 
reduction techniques in schools.  A participant felt  that  church v 
state cut him off from a prayerful religious response to stress, so a 
moderator shared with us his definition of spirituality.

"Spirituality is belief in something over and above you which  adds 
meaning to your life."  This seems satisfactory to me.
