Sorry for the delay in this response from New Jersey.
NJ faced a major budget deficit this year (approximately $4 billion). A 100
day budget process was not enough, so NJ's state government was shut down
for the first week of July before an agreement was reached. Frankly, the
dust has not settled from this process and we are still trying to determine
the full impact on various components of NJ's adult literacy 'system'.
This summer, the legislature has been called into special session for
"comprehensive property tax relief and reform." School funding is a highly
charged issue to be discussed. Our adult high schools continue to face
extreme pressure.
As a US Senator, Governor Jon Corzine consistently supported adult literacy.
We will report further as we figure this out.
Dave

(7.1%), Minnesota (3%), New Hampshire (7%), New York ($1 Million)
Level funded: Arizona, Pennsylvania, Vermont (however, they did get
