Colleagues,

The piece of writing now entitled "Contributory Causes of Low Adult
English Literacy in the United States," which George Demetrion and
others have put together using this -- and other -- electronic
lists, is now up on the Adult Literacy Education (ALE) Wiki at:

http://wiki.literacytent.org/index.php/ALElowliteracy

It can be printed out and shared, the link can be forwarded to
colleagues and others, and of course, since it's on a wiki, it can be
improved.

This may be a useful piece for those who ask why so many adults in
the United States, a country with a relatively high investment in
K-12 education, cannot read well or at all. It would also be helpful
if, as you read it, you could link in research which supports one (or
more) of the factors/hypotheses/assertions described.
