I would put money down on that!
I've included a tangential article below --jump to the links especially the
Washington Post March article...go to page 2 of the article note..that the
fifth grade level of illiterate populace in India are being connected FIRST
with the economic tools of capital ventures THEN...as a side...
literacy/education (Friere where are you when we need you!!).
Until the bottom line ($$$) is linked to the value of education then issue
is silent (recall Braddemus and the whole point of the Ed Laws in the first
place--to bring the poverty level up to taxable status..ohh ok and to make us
all feel good that we helped someone).
I would suggest that there becomes a linking of purposes here.. the
resources of technology expansion, linked to economic (ok yeah... profit margin
enhancement also) and the need to be educated--read at least the promos for the
product, the contract for the job.
This may cause Freire to roll in the grave...but it would be hoped that
having the awareness of that pitfall could stave off any negative or unintended
consequences.
BTW universities are examining the possibilities of international education
links with technology. Make that link too--and bring it back home to your own
back yard--literally and figuratively...and do not limit to just what you NOW
know or understand of the Tech link to education/economics... wireless and
it's evolutionary products may help alleviate the
