What a fabulous opportunity!

OK, a fav book of mine is Victoria Purcell-Gates "Other People's Words."   
1995, Harvard University Press.   It encompasses many of the themes we talk 
about here--the cycle of low literacy, parents and children, how and why parents 
didn't progress in school.   An addition: the economic displacement which got 
them out of Kentucky or W. Virginia, one imagines, and into the cityscape of 
Cincinnati.
