[AAACE-NLA] Need Help with Grade Equivalency Categories

I caution against using grade equivalents too much. More importantly - look
at the types of questions students are missing and the types they are not
missing - help them see what they know and what they need to work on. A
standardized test is a starting point - it can give us an idea of the level
of material the student can operate in comfortably, and what levels will
challenge, but not discourage the student. Should we start with ABE
(Pre-GED) level material or ASE(GED) level? Maybe it's GED in reading and
ABE in Math and language. A teacher/tutor should be familiar with the
assessment tool, what it's asking and how it "works". A simple score,
whether grade equivalent or scale score, says little unless you are familiar
with the context.

Putting aside for a moment the relevancy of grade equivalent scores in
assessing adults, I think the NRS levels and the associated GE levels
correlate very well to GE scores on the TABE, for example. How useful this
is to instruction or to the learner is another issue.
