and Outreach at the U.S. Dept. of Education:

interagency effort -- to coordinate adult education programs across the

I don't believe the Secretary made formal remarks concerning the study, but
the Commissioner's remarks are at

Two intriguing sentences which appear in an article today in the Sonora,
California Union Democrat:
"There is much work to do, however, to break out of the stall the literacy
study shows, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings said in a
statement. Spellings recently announced plans to increase adult education
efforts among several federal agencies."
