[AAACE-NLA] Reading Wars Starting in Adult Literacy

As an advocacy note, I just want to share that I often forward snippets of
info about adult literacy, such as Tom Sticht's recent post about "reading
wars", to the decision-makers at our local United Way, a major funder of
our program. This particular group is heavily influenced by the corporate
sector, and I feel they tend to oversimplify our cause and lump us
together with education in general. Forwarding references to scholarly
work like the article Tom cited is a great way to continually keep our
needs before stakeholders who demand data and "best practices". I wish
they would stop looking for a silver bullet. This is my way of gently
reminding them that our issues and needs are far more complicated. Thanks,
Tom.
