Colleagues--
Seems I'm doing a lot of talking today, so don't want to bore people.
I've read the article, briefly, and there is really nothing that contradicts
a skills approach, the article adds useful information about context and
technique. This follows the lead of the Purcell-Gates et al book. ("Demetrion"
is in the bibliography.)
A teacher has to know the structure of the language, be educated him/her self
in this way, before teaching is effective, my thinking, so as to be free to
adapt and understand the learners' context.
I'd still like to see a knowledgeable critique of the component approach if
there is one out there...does anybody know?
Thanks.
Andrea
