Life = survival, and it is right there with pursuit of happiness. If you talk human rights, then that's all of us as humans. This isn't picky, it's merely looking at the language.
Life = I covered that. Liberty = freedom to not be enslaved, enter into contracts, etc. Pursuit of happiness = all the rest.
By the way, I seem to remember that Jefferson took the "life, liberty" bit from Locke--but substituted "pursuit of happiness" for something else. Do you remember what that was?
The problem here is coming up with a simple way to frame the field. And I mean simple--one that is quickly understood by the person in the street and doesn't take any time at all to explain.
