John Coming's description of what this country is about really does rise considerably above the merely utilitarian.  I think the use of this language is powerful, and highly motivating--we all know it, we all do accept it.

Jefferson, a slave owner, orginated the phrase "pursuit of happiness." It's meaning changed since first written, but I think John really nailed down the hope it implies.
