AAACE-NLA Colleague,
On July 4th many people in the U.S. get together with friends and
relatives for picnics. For some it is an opportunity to talk with
people who may have different political perspectives or political
priorities. This could be a great opportunity to learn what reasons
those outside our field find most compelling to support adult
literacy education. This information could be useful to future adult
literacy advocacy efforts.
I have created an Independence Day Adult Literacy Survey and it is
now ready to use immediately, on July 4th, or any time throughout the
rest of June or July.
The survey has two formats:
1) a two-page document, at
http://home.comcast.net/~djrosen/fourthofjulysurveys.html
to print, photocopy, hand out to family or friends, and then mail to me;
and
2) an electronic version to email to friends or family, who would
complete it on screen, and then e-mail it back to you or directly to
me. If you would like the electronic version, e-mail me at
djrosen at theworld.com
Please mail (or e-mail) me the completed surveys by July 30th, and
I’ll tabulate the results and post them here.
I am grateful to Tom Sticht for providing much of the material on
which this survey is based in his May 29th message to this list,
entitled “ABC’s of Investing in Adult Literacy Education, ” and to
other colleagues for giving me good advice on editing the survey,
including Toni-Ann Mills, John Comings, Cristine Smith, Marty
Finsterbusch, Marie Cora, Lynn Reed, Jackie Taylor, Sheri Rogers,
Marilyn Gillespie, Erik Jacobson and Daphne Greenberg
You will find the print version of the survey at
http://home.comcast.net/~djrosen/fourthofjulysurveys.html
