Tom,

I just dropped into the site on this Sunday to find out who was saying what.

I think that collectively we have made a decision that some children are not  worth educating, so we don't spend money there.  I think we as  society are willing to let certain people go.  The more I read the more this seems to be true.

If we wanted to solve the problem we would also solve some of the social situations that prolong poverty, and we are not doing that.

I just don't hear the language around the topic of literacy that means that people really want to solve the problem of low literacy.

I don't hear:  insistence on health care for all children, insistence on housing for all children, insistence on nutritious meals for all children. All these factors influence school achievement.  We are CREATING low literacy adults.
