Hi David,
Here is what i am aware of about Louisiana.
Margery Freeman has contacted members of the Louisiana delegation regarding the issue. Even though she now lives in NYC!
I have requested Capitol Hill meetings with both of LA’s Senators and the two members of Congress from New Orleans in my role as a member of ProLiteracy Worldwide’s Board. Only one confirmed for March 2, 2005, as of today. Still working out times for the rest.
Several New Orleans area adult learners, including one on YES!’s staff, are attending the VALUE Conference in D.C. and are also working on visits to “The Hill” to tell their own story as a part of the VALUE Conference.
Additionally, several staff members from the Literacy Alliance of Greater New Orleans are also in D. C. that same week for a meeting of Literacy Coalitions and will be making “Hill” visits as well.
Lastly, an adult learner letter writing initiative is also being organized via Literacy Alliance of Greater New Orleans.
