Debbie and anyone else--

When I was in the classroom I thought research was hogwash because it never made sense me, it didn't look at my reality.

I was even the subject of research once, as a guinea pig for a local college. The researcher asked at the end if I wanted to read what she had written and I told her No, you wouldn't get it right.

There is still a lot of research out there which is hogwash. Some of it is done so people can advance in their careers in higher education, let's be frank.

In my own research I did a qualitative study of a school and it was so accurate I was threatened with a law suit, EVEN WITH THE CASE DISGUISED. So teachers should do research.

In one of my jobs I got to open the principal's mail--there are a lot of fads out there, some disguised as research-based. Snake oil!

So you've got to really hunt for useful research.

I read the report/article/guide and liked it a lot.

1) Empirical testing--the reality we all live.

2) Democratic--the research is out there for anyone to take pot shots at.

3) Part of the stone wall--each piece of research aims to be a stone in a growing stone wall, who knows who will build on it, but that is the aim, to fill a little niche (or a big niche).

4) Resources--doing good research takes a lot of time, a lot of money, a very hard head, and the patience of Job.
