[AAACE-NLA] Spellings on cartoons: call it what it really is

I'm so freaked out! The other day, on the news, I heard that the
Conservative Christian Coalition is trying to get the cartoon Sponge Bob
Square Pants banned because Sponge Bob sometimes holds hands with his
best friend Patrick. Not sure if you know Sponge Bob, but it is
certainly one of the shows that is definitely ON in my household. (I can
elaborate on why I feel this cartoon is a good one, but not right now).
Margaret Spellings is siding with the CCC on this one.

Today in the Boston Globe, it reports that she (Spellings) is also
against Postcards From Buster (an absolutely PERFECT spin off of Arthur
in which Buster goes round the world with his pilot dad making amateur
videos of the people he meets. It's brilliant. Spellings has achieved
pressuring PBS to NOT AIR the episode in which lesbians appear.

I'm SO outraged. When are we going to call this what it is: bigotry.
When are we going to fight against this blatant attempt to erase
equality and justice? This is OUR NEW secretary of education for OUR
CHILDREN doing this via a cartoon on tv. It makes my stomach turn to
say that this person is the head of the education system in which MY
children are attending. She holds NO values similar to mine or my
family and she NEVER will.

Where and how can we lobby against this position? What do others feel
about this person and this action? I find it disgusting, underhanded,
and petty that her first moves are against children's cartoons - and
she's not even choosing the ones that need to get off the air.

Speechless in Boston,
marie
