Tom:
Is life cycles education a policy group, or a concept, maybe a generative idea? I know you have written and spoken about intergenerational transfer of cognitive skills for a number of years.
I think we face some large problems here.
1) NCLB has pluses and minuses--one of the minuses is push outs, youth who don't get a chance for a diploma.
2) Growing gap between rich and poor = potential need for more education later on, after school leaving, due to families (potentially) unable to provide needed educational support for children, including health care.
3) State cutbacks of adult education funds due to lower state budgets, less money available from taxes.(a very complicated issues).
I know you support a system of adult education. I am sure someone has thought that the continuing need will be for ESL, while other programs could be phased out. How do you frame the problem and the solution? Or maybe I should look back on your emails?
Thanks.
Andrea
