Colleagues,

In Hebrew, "charity" translates as "justice."

In Amos, I think it is "Justice, justice, shalt thou pursue."

In Debbie's case, "social policy" which should be the domain of government policy, has been transferred to the private sector, business people.

Those who have been born with fewer advantages--capital--need to get capital from somewhere to begin to even out their structural disadvantages.

Debbie is in the negotiating business right now, trying to get the capital (money, services) she needs. She is in the justice business, trying to even out social disadvantage. Literacy is her vehicle. This is what motivates her, read her emails.

How can she do this? How can she get business people, who some may see as "the enemy" on her side? She has to meet their needs, talk their language, and work out collaborative relationships. What are their needs?

Negotiation is a game, and she wants to get adult students in the game.

Andrea
