Dear Debby,
I'm with you on the school thing--I don't think anybody should have to apologize for promoting education and schooling. With adults, it's self-improvement--nothing mandated, and in my book those who stick it out deserve credit (school talk).
If I had my way I would toss out all the jargon language that has to do with schools as businesses--client, customer and consumer being three words I loathe in relation to education. I'm not too keen on "practicioners" either. "Principal" used to mean "principal teacher."
Schooling gets involved with money at all turns--the use of "credit," above, an example; an interesting problem.
I do regard education as frequently a sacred calling, and anyone who has ever worked in the trenches of their own egos, with students, really does understand this.
Andrea
