Gail,

Gosh, I bet you get a lot of letters on this one!

As you present this woman, there is not much that points to dyslexia,

The confusion over first and last names, for example, could come from reading attendance lists that are arranged with last names first.

There is often a lag between the skills a person demonstrates, and those they can spot in others or on the written page.

The grammar, capitalization problems could come from home/street influences and poor teaching.

I would recommend an evaluation to see if there is something organically wrong.

Poor spelling may or may not be a red flag. Different types of dyslexia can be spotted in patterns of spelling mistakes.

To the larger point about Sally Shaywitz--I have met her briefly, have an autographed book, and  she seemed interested in adult literacy.  I think it is a coup to have her!
