Let me ask a question:

Suppossed that Kerry says:

"I won't put a single dime in literacy", 

and George Bush says:

I will increase the adult ed budget by $10 billion. 

Does it matter anyway? Would this influence your vote? I would hope that it doesn't.  

I think that right now, what is at stake, while it is directly related to literacy, goes way beyond literacy funding. It has to do with how literate we all are and how we read the word in the world, as Freire would say.
