Whew!  What a conversation!  I only understand part of it.  Let me just go briefly to the consensus part.  While some have made this political, it doesn't have to be, though the language  isn't helpful because it does suggest two sides which have agreed, maybe temporarily, to  get along.  Whole to part, or part  to whole? Top down or bottom up?  Both are useful ways of learning, depends on the context.
